Gurulé Cousins Corner
Biography:
George was born July 11, 1942 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. His father's name is Abraham B. Sanchez, and his mother's name is Ramoncita Gurule Sanchez. George attended elementary and junior high schools in Carrizozo, New Mexico and graduated from Las Cruces High School (1960) in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He received an Associate of Arts degree in Mathematics (1965) from East Los Angeles College in Los Angeles, California, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics (1968) from California State University in Los Angeles, and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics (1983) from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
George paid his way through high school and college by working as a meatcutter. He started teaching mathematics at a junior high school in Las Cruces in 1968 and in 1984 started teaching high school math in El Paso. He was also a lecturer in mathematics at New Mexico State University, at the University of Texas at El Paso, and at El Paso Community College for ten years. George retired from teaching two years ago and he and his wife Kila reside in El Paso, Texas. He now has an interesting part-time job--picking up and deliver motorcycles for Barnett Harley Davidson. "I don't get paid very much but I get to see a lot of the United States with someone else paying all the bills!", he says. "My wife Kila sometimes goes on these trips with me. We have gone as far as Milwaukee, WI and Seattle, WA."

As the family's grassroots New Mexico historian and genealogist, George has written three family history books tracing some ancestors to the 1598 Don Juan de Onate colonists and others to the 1693 Don Diego de Vargas colonists. He also likes playing chess, listening to music, going to special events and concerts, fishing, hunting, camping, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles all over the United States.
George married Jesusita (Kila) Evaro in 1960. They are the parents of two grown sons: George, Jr., his wife Elva, and daughter Clarissa live in Albuquerque, NM. Karl and his wife Penny, their daughters, Felicia, Desiree, and Briana and son Dominic Michael Sanchez live in Colorado Springs, CO.
